Losing the Fear

,

We’ve forgotten Adonai- or perhaps never properly knew Him as Master. Too often we come to him as equals- demanding our needs, wants, and desires be met- unafraid to walk away if the answers are not to our liking.

We wring hands and throw stones at His beloved. We speak out in anger and frustration about that which we don’t understand and have no business questioning.

We lose faith or rather throw it away willingly when our idea of what God should be is not the picture He allows us to see.

We’ve grown unafraid of our Master. Unrepentant in our depravity. Unzealous in our obedience. Lazy in our walk.

Dear ones we’ve lost the fear and trembling; wavering between familiarity and grace we too often put aside the mercy of the Master. Assuming a birthright that is ours by blood but still requires a servants heart to fulfill.

Where is our Adonai? Our Master and Creator? The Sovereign Lord, Yahweh, El Elyon?

He is still near, unchanging, deserving of every ounce of ourselves. He is not lost- rather our fear and trembling has been forsaken.

Too often our selfish pride, our ‘I’m not <that> bad’ has deluded us into a position next to God instead of on our knees before Him. We place mere humans thoughts, words, actions, and deeds and attribute them to a Being who is beyond anything we could possibly comprehend… and then demand that He explain Himself; forcing Adonai to makes sense in a box, by a set of rules in which He never has and never will ever rule the cosmos within.

And we have no shame in the doing of it.

Before His majesty we are nothing.
Before His throne we are slaves.
Before His countenance we beg for mercy, even as we wallow as dust at His feet.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Adonai forgive our impertinence. Forgive our pride. Dear Father look past our haughty hearts and give us a servants stance before Your throne. May we find utter satisfaction and purpose in doing Your Will as Your blessed and obedient servants. Give us a sacred reverence for Your Name and Your Authority. May we approach You with fear and trembling, awe-struck at Your great mercy towards such sinners as we are. You are such a good and utterly just master. You are beyond anything we could ever ask or imagine. May we be at peace in accepting Your complete Otherness- Your complete Authority over us. May we be found good, worthy, and faithful in our obedience and humility in the service of Your kingdom.

“Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. Praise the Lord with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth. The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭33:1-22‬

Amen and amen!
