Mind Control

, ,

Over at Holy Beautiful I’ve been tasked with writing a year-long series on Mind, Body, and Spirit- what scripture says about these tenets of our selves as well as how to keep them healthy and scripturally sound. Our mind is THE first and most extensive battleground for ourselves in this spiritual war we are fighting. As Kay Arthur says, “I believe if Christians don’t slow their pace and discipline their time in order to be in the Word of God in a daily basis, we are going to see more and more immorality. Why? Because when we’re not in the Word- reading it through consistently- we forget who our God is and what He expects and requires. We have a tendency to rationalize our humanity and forget His holiness.”

Whoa. Too true.

God wants us to have the mind of Christ. “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind…. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:1-2, 5‬ ‭ESV‬ So let us start this year with a mind clean out. Begin today with a simple prayer to ask the Holy Spirit what in your mind needs to be cleaned up (or even moved out!). What areas are dark and dusty and need some spiritual Mr. Clean? Be open to the areas that the Father wants to work on. Be brave. Some of those rooms may be scary and long-forgotten. That’s okay. Cleaning out needs to happen before we start redecorating with GodStuff (which we’ll get to I promise!)

Confession is key here. Once you know what needs cleansing- wash it out sister!! Confess those sins and let’s get moving- do the hard work of cleaning out so we can do the fun stuff later. Work on confessing the clutter, cleansing the sins, lighting up the dark this week. You can do it!

1 John 1:9 (ESV) “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

For those brave souls, confess below what you’ll be working on. Scripture tells us to confess our sins, one to another (James 5:16) so that we may more diligently pray for and help each other.
